SERVE
We celebrate your interest in exploring ways to partner with us to carry out God’s mission in our community, church, and world. We share God’s love in our words and deeds.
Ways You Can Serve
Christian Education
Serve in our Christian education ministries for adults, teens, and children by volunteering in the nursery, teaching a children's class on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings, shopping for or cooking meals at Wednesday night Faith Weaver Friends, participating in Vacation Bible School. Teach an adult study or lead a small group for adults. Provide leadership training for adults.
Worship
Much goes on in the background and on Sunday mornings to bring our worship experiences to life. We welcome you to sing in our choir, provide vocal or instrumental solos, greet and usher worshipers, or serve on our Audiovisual Team which is responsible for projecting the PowerPoint worship slides and livestreaming the services. If you enjoy selecting worship series or designing visual arts installations for worship, we invite you to join our planning team. We appreciate many volunteers as we decorate our sanctuary for Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter. Children and youth are invited to read scripture, usher, and participate in other ways in our worship experiences.
Fellowship
Do you enjoy designing meaningful and fun fellowship events? As we continue to emerge from the pandemic we are increasing our fellowship events and welcome your ideas and help.
Environmental Care
We can always use your help in managing our recycling, washing dishes at Fellowship events to reduce our paper usage, and collecting trash in our Adopt-a-Spot area.
Holiday Outreach
Assist with our Thanksgiving and Christmas Outreach through contributing funds, sorting/packaging food and gifts, delivering food/gifts for children and their families.
Agents of Grace
Once a year we hold an Agents of Grace Sunday. We worship together, have lunch, and disperse to serve at various agencies in our community, visit in homes and care facilities, sing in retirement communities, carry out an environmental project, collect food, write cards to people in our church and community who need encouragement, and much more. We need planners and participants each year for this beautiful day of service.
Mission Teams
We have enjoyed a strong relationship with missionaries in Haiti and have sent teams to serve there for many years. Due to circumstances in Haiti, we are exploring other national and international mission opportunities.
Prayer
We are a prayerful congregation. We have two prayer chains and invite people to submit prayer requests and prayers of praise. If you would like to join a prayer chain (either email or phone) or want to seek prayer, please let the church office know.
Summer Education
Serve in our summer education ministry as a teacher, assistant teacher, cook/lunch packer, driver. Help children avoid the “summer slump” and promote academic progress.
Transportation Team
Serve on our transportation team so all students may attend worship, Sunday School, Wednesday Faith Weaver Friends, and other children’s/youth activities.
Finance/Stewardship
If you are skilled in financial management, investment strategies, accounting, bookkeeping, and inspiring people to give joyfully of themselves, we invite you to share your gifts at Denbigh United.
Upward Soccer
Participate in our Upward Soccer Program coming in August 2023. Coach, referee, provide snacks, help with concessions, help with Bible lessons/devotions for children and spectators, transport players, pray.
People Offering Resources Together (PORT) Overnight Shelter
Serve by welcoming guests and providing Christian hospitality when we host the overnight shelter. Cook and serve meals, pack breakfasts, create hygiene kits, set up the church for PORT, re-set the church after PORT, assist with clothing giveaway during PORT.
Clothing & More Giveaway
Quarterly, we offer a Clothing & More Giveaway for the community. Assist with managing donations, setting up on Giveaway days, clean up afterward. Provide hospitality to those who attend.
Vaccine Clinics
We respond to current needs, such as partnering with the Denbigh Pharmacy to host COVID and flu vaccine and booster clinics.
Kidz'nGrief
We share our church facilities with Kidz’nGrief – a support program your children and families who are grieving.
Local Agencies
We support with funds and volunteers several agencies in our community: LINK of Hampton Roads, Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center, THRIVE Peninsula, Menchville House, and the Virginia Foodbank. You can volunteer, contribute, or serve on boards.
Ministry Teams
We have ministry teams that support all the internally and externally focused ministries of the church. There are opportunities to lead teams that may have short-term or long-term commitments to carry out the ministry.
Paul's Neighborhood Ministry
Fifteen years ago we answered the mayor’s call to build relationships with the children of one of our city’s at-risk communities. Since then, our church family has grown to include community children in all activities of the church. We respond to food insecurity and clothing needs, need for support with children’s education, and general support for families.
Prime Timers
Prime Timers (those over 55) gather monthly for fellowship at restaurants, theater productions, mini-golf, and more. They also serve our church and community with projects such as Blessing Bags for THRIVE Peninsula, Birthday cake kits for families that need these supplies to celebrate, an annual donation of snacks for local soldiers going home at Christmas, and more.
Congregational Care Committee
The church’s Congregational Care Committee is a place to serve if you enjoy caring for the church family through all the seasons of life.
