Baptism

DUPC-338.jpg

If you are contemplating baptism for yourself or your child we celebrate the opportunity to join you on your journey.

We celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism throughout the year for believers and their children.

"Both believers and their children are included in God's covenant love. The baptism of believers witnesses to the truth that God's gift of grace calls for our grateful response. The baptism of our young children witnesses to the truth that God claims people in love even before they are able to respond in faith. These two forms of witness are one and the same sacrament."

Believers who desire to be baptized are invited to attend a class to learn more about baptism, the Christian faith, and church membership. After completing the class, you will meet with our elders to be welcomed into the church family. We will schedule your baptism during a worship service and rejoice! If you are baptized in our sanctuary, you will be sprinkled with the waters of baptism. If you prefer to be immersed, we will schedule a worship service off-site where immersion is possible.

Believers who desire their children of any age to be baptized will meet with one of the pastors as well as our elders to discuss the responsibilities of presenting children for baptism. We will schedule your child's baptism during a worship service and celebrate this important step in your child and your family's faith journey.

We offer a Confirmation Class for middle and high school students. Students who complete this class and who were not previously baptized will be baptized when they are confirmed, make their professions of faith, and join the church.

"As there is one body, there is one baptism. Our church recognizes all baptisms by other Christian churches that are administered with water and performed in the name of the triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)." Book of Order W-3.0402

Weddings

Congratulations on your plan to marry! This is likely both a joyful and stressful time as you plan your wedding.

First, we encourage you to remember to prepare for your marriage even as you plan your wedding. To help you prepare for your marriage, our pastors provide at least four premarital counseling sessions with couples prior to the wedding.

Second, we will help you plan your wedding ceremony. We believe that a wedding is a service in which God is worshiped, the good news of Jesus is shared, marriage vows are made, and prayers are offered not only for the couple but for all present.

We will help you personalize your wedding ceremony and help it to be a memorable and meaningful celebration.

For information on guidelines, expectations, and fees, please see the link to our "Planning Your Wedding" booklet.

Funerals and memorial services at Denbigh United seek to bear witness to the resurrection to eternal life, comfort those who mourn, and celebrate the life of your loved one.

Our pastors strive to personalize these services and to minister to all present.

Upon request and with the support of the congregation, our Congregational Care Committee provides a reception following the service. They also provide support for you beyond the day of the service.

Planning a funeral/memorial service amid grief can be difficult; our pastors will guide you through the process.
