Bible Study on Psalms—Deborah is leading a Bible Study on the Psalms on Thursdays, at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. The lessons are recorded and can be accessed by going to our new website, www.denbighunitedpres.org (as of February 1). Go to Read & Listen/Adult Education. There you will find the recordings and class PowerPoints. Please contact Deborah at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
New Class—In 2020 Presbyterians were called to “the hard work of justice” in response to what has often been referred to as the twin pandemics of COVID-19 and structural racism.
At DUPC, under the leadership of Pastors Deborah and Boone as well as Sessional committees, the vital ministries of this church to its members and to the community went forward in the pandemic. With prayer and creativity we found new ways to be the church in the midst of COVID. With God’s faithfulness and to His glory, we let our “little light shine.”
Can DUPC have an impact on the second pandemic—structural racism? If we are to be salt and light, how can we not at least try? An Adult Education class is in the planning stage to jump-start this justice work. At this point the class will be via Zoom, probably on Tuesday evenings. While all the planning is not complete, it is most likely that we will use a book recommended by PCUSA as a framework for conversation; it is also possible we may collaborate with one or more churches on the peninsula in this class. Please be alert for further announcements and details about the class.
Adult I Bible Study—The winter quarter began December 6 and continues through February 28. This study is based on the Uniform Series, a plan for reading and studying the Bible. It is used by many Christian denominations throughout the world. This quarter focuses on a key element of our discipleship: discerning what God is calling us to be and do. Our study includes readings from the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, Hebrews, and
2 Timothy. Since we are not certain as to when we will resume in-person classes, participant books have been distributed. If you are not currently a member of this class and would like a book, please let Jay Dunn know at 757-897-4069.
